Darth Vader and son in Diamond now

I'm home from the Sundance FIlm Festival, where Save The Date premiered to a largely positive response. Hopefully everyone else will be able to see the movie soon, but until then you can get ready for Darth Vader and son, which will be out in May and is currently available to pre-order in the Diamond Comics Catalogue (you can also ask your local comic shop to make sure and order you a copy). Here's some pencil sketches from the process of designing the book's cover - trying out slight variations of where Luke and Vader are looking, as well as their positioning. I think I drew about eight pencil versions in all, and fully inked and colored three or four of those. In the end, of course, we ended up using the first drawing I did. Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Star Wars are all TM/R/C/etc. Lucasfilm 2012.

  3. Yes, I will be at CAKE for sure. Father's Day weekend, too, so perfect timing for the release...

  4. HAHA! how does Vader eat that ice-cream through his breathing mask? Wait, how does that guy eat anything?!

  5. On the subject of cons, are you returning to Zinefest? And what about C2E2? They never listed you before, as you were always at the Top Shelf booth, so I figured I'd ask.

  6. I'll be at Zinefest, but just to walk around and look this year. At C2E2 I'll be sitting with the Top Shelf booth, as usual. And stay tuned in June for CAKE, where I'll also be signing and talking in some form...

  7. Awesome! I was hoping to table at Zinefest this year, but submitted too late. I'd have probably only had a couple of minicomics done, and since I don't have it as a deadline, I'm focusing on some longer stuff now. Always a pleasure seeing you, and I'll be trying to come up to CAKE, assuming either it's cheap or I can nab a press badge.

If you've got some time at either event and you'd be willing to do be interviewed for Comics Bulletin, let me know. We can do something by email instead too.

  9. My toddler is obsessed with Darth Vader and would love this book. Will there be a Spanish version available?

  10. Not sure yet, but hopefully someday - I haven't heard yet, so far there's French and Japanese versions.
